Poem: Millennium Countdown

1 January 2000 | Poetry

There it was, sailing over the treetops
The lost balloon of your innocence

The silly fireworks couldn’t bring it back
Or even shoot it down, they said

But then something exploded – was it your heart?
Soft fragments fluttering down like tears

That was quite a show, they muttered, and went home
Looking to the future.
